1964 GLYNN ACADEMY FOOTBALL
TEAM
The 1964 Red Terrors of Coach Harold Henderson captured the school’s only state football championship when they defeated the Avondale Blue Devils in a 21-18 comeback win at Lanier Field. The stirring victory enabled Glynn to finish with an unbeaten 11-0-1 record, the tie being a 14-14 stalemate with rival Jesup High School in the early portion of the season. A week before the state-clinching win over Avondale, the Red Terrors pulled out a scintillating 14-7 win over a powerful Columbus High team in the South Georgia AAA championship game. The winning touchdown came with just 45 seconds remaining when quarterback Tash Van Dora and halfback Johnny Tullos hooked up on an 82-yard touchdown pass. The 1964 Terrors were recently the subject of a best-selling book, written by Brunswick native Jesse Tullos, older brother of star halfback Johnny.
