Dawn Wynn is a former Glynn Academy basketball standout who went on to star on the collegiate level at Valdosta State University.
At Glynn, Wynn played for 2012 Glynn County Sports Hall of Fame inductee Theresa Adams. She was a three-time selection to The Brunswick News All-County Team during her prep career and was chosen as the County Girls Player of the Year as a senior in 1991.
Wynn earned a basketball scholarship to Valdosta State, where she played from 1991-95. With the Lady Blazers, Wynn led the team in rebounding all four seasons. She finished her collegiate career scoring 1,198 points to join the school’s 1,000 Point Club and finished with a 11.1 points per game average. She was named Freshman of the Year in the Gulf South Conference in her first year at VSU and was All-Conference as a junior and a senior. As a senior, she led the Lady Blazers to a 25-4 record and the GSC East Division title and helped the team to a runner-up finish in the South Regional of the NCAA Division II tournament.
Wynn was selected first-team Kodak All-American by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association following her senior season in which she averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game. In her final year of eligibility, she again proved her athletic talents when she was selected to be a member of the VSU Lady Blazer volleyball team in its inaugural season. She was a standout middle blocker.
Following her career at Valdosta State, Wynn commissioned in the U.S. Navy and currently serves as a Commander. She was inducted into the Valdosta State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.
