LAMAR "RACEHORSE" DAVIS
Davis had an exceptional athletic career at Glynn Academy before going on to the University of Georgia where he became one of the Bulldogs’ all-time best players. Playing for Wally Butts and some powerful UGA teams in the 1940s, Davis shared the backfield with Georgia legends Frank Sinkwich and Charley Trippi. As a speedy wingback, Davis collected all-conference honors and was on the receiving end of numerous long touchdown passes as a Bulldog. Until recently, he held the record for most receiving yards (198) in a game by a Bulldog and he also set kick return records while in Athens. Ironically, Racehorse enrolled at Georgia on a basketball scholarship after an outstanding career in that sport at Glynn Academy but was invited to play in the Georgia North-South High School All-Star football game and his career on the gridiron took off after that. Davis went on to play professional football for the Baltimore Colts and is a member of the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
